Fifth Jedediah Smith Trail 1826
Map of fifth Jedediah Smith Trail
This year I am following again the trail of Jedediah Smith in the year 1826, when he set off for his south west expedition. I will follow his trails also in the oncoming years until his death in 1831 by Comanches.
My trail starts this time again off my historic trails. First I visit “Robbers Roost”, the former hideout of Butch Cassidy and his Wild Bunch. Then I visited Sego Ghost Town. I am driving on to Moab and visit the Arches National Park before I pick up my trail in Las Vegas. I follow the Colorado down to Needles where Jedediah left the river with Indian guides. They showed him the way through the Mohavo Desert to reach the San Bernardino Mountain Range. I finish my trail at Barstow and drive back to Pittsburgh via Memphis and Nashville.
