Robert Stuart Trail 1812 — 1813
Day 38: September 18th, 2007 Maysville — Pittsburgh
Today the last leg of my journey starts. I have breakfast at Bob Evans and receive an absolutely excellent service there! Only the server friendliness looks like covered charme, that it is almost uncomfortable. Then I drive over to the next gas station.
E Third St/Highway 62, Maysville, KY
Highway 62/68, Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge, Maysville, KY
Highway 62/68, Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge, Aberdeen, OH
At a quarter past ten I depart. First I cross the Ohio River on the Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge, then I take Highway 41.
Highway 41, OH
Now I drive through West Union in Ohio.
At Peebles I switch to Highway 50. The traffic up to here is unfortunately pretty high. But on Highway 50 it starts to get really busy.
Highway 50/Main_St, Chilicothe, OH
At Chillicothe I turn onto Highway 159 and Highway 23 in northern direction. Unfortunately, my turn signal breaks down just around here. Just on these last miles my old truck starts to play games with me. And the left axle seal also starts to leak now! But I will do nothing there, because it is only leaking a little.
Highway 22/Main St, Circleville, OH
At Circleville I see an Autozone. There I stop and check my turn signal. After searching for a while and doing a bunch of measurements it looks like the turn signal relay is broken. They even have it on stock there and it only costs a couple of dollars. I immediately install it and lucky me, it works again! The old relay can also safely be deposit in the garbage can at the store. Then I continue my travels.
Highway 22 takes me to Lancaster.
Highway 22/Main St, Somerset, OH
Highway 22, OH
Then I reach Somerset.
On this very well traveled Highway 22 I reach Zanesville. There I finally switch to the Interstates.
I–470, State Line OH and WV
On I–470 I cross the state line to West Virginia.
I–70, State Line WV and PA
Then I cross the state line to Pennsylvania on I–70. At Washington in Pennsylvania I gas up for the last time. All in all I am not allowed to have more than a half full gas tank when I arrive at the mine. At 5pm I continue my ride.
Finally I arrive around 6pm at Pep Boys, where I plan to finish my emission test. Unfortunately, the mechanic who has run the previous test is not around and the law requires that it must be the same guy to repeat the test. And when he is back, my time window of one month for doing the re–test is over. So I have no other choice than to drive home without my sticker. Not a real crowning finish of my this years journey.
Tomorrow I plan to change my tires, check in at my Chevy dealer in Wexford to discuss everything for next year and to clean my car. But for today I have done enough and I am heartily greeted by Helen with a wonderful dinner. More than 8000 miles later I am back home again!
