Zebulon Montgomery Pike Trail to Red River, Mexico Journey 1807

Day 6: October 3rd, 2003 Pittsburgh (Garage)

The weather is unchanged. I drive back to David’s garage. Timewise I am completely behind my schedule and I have to start cutting things down. The cooling water change is definitely postponed to next year. I think about to install my gauges for transmission pressure and temperature. But I am afraid that I will not be able to finish this work today.

So I just look for the best mounting positions to finish everything next year quickly. The sending units are best placed in the engine compartment where I hooked up the additional oil cooler. The gauges will be placed with a fastener tape below my self made gauge and the CB radio. Then I still see the signals for my 4WD.

Next I unpack all my bought stuff and try to find nice spots for them in my little truck. After two hours I have found a decent spot for everything. To finish my work I will mount my new tow hooks. There are already holes in the frame, where I just have to open one a little bit to make it fit. The other one needs to be drilled completely new.

After I finished this I start to clean my windows from the inside. I almost forget to also hook up my backup battery. But also this is done quickly. In the meantime it is late afternoon and David returns. I give him my two cans of anti–freeze and ask him to store it for my job next year. Then I drive back home and start my last preparations for my tomorrows departure.
